Lake Condominiums at Big Sky: Seasonality Information

Lake Condominiums is located 50 miles south of Bozeman, Montana and 50 miles north of the town of West Yellowstone. Day trips to the parks are possible, but require driving through beautiful, yet treacherous road conditions – weather and season dependent. All trips in this area of the Rockies can be 200+ miles per day.

It is important to check the national park websites prior to your arrival to ensure which entrances are open to the public. To learn more, click here.

If you’re visiting in Winter

You can access 30+ lifts to over 5,600 acres of skiable terrain over three mountains. Or catch some air on the jumps, rails, and halfpipe in the terrain park. As a bonus, Big Sky is nationally recognized for its short or non-existent lift lines.

The ski season and surrounding activities are typically open from November through mid-April.

If you’re visiting in Summer

Big Sky is not just for wintertime fun – there are a range of activities in the summer as well. From hiking, golfing, mountain biking, fishing and more. It’s also a great time to visit the national parks. Lake Condominiums provides the perfect home base for a must-see day trip to Yellowstone National Park or an overnight trip to Grand Teton National Park. Both parks feature magnificent mountains, unspoiled wilderness, and spectacular wildlife.

The summer season typically opens early June and runs through end of September.

If you’re visiting in Spring and Fall

Spring and fall are considered off-season, but both still have plenty to offer visitors. Spring is a great time to visit Big Sky as the hiking trails have started to melt with wildflowers starting to bloom. Sunny skies also make it a primetime for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The parks are just beginning to open and are typically less crowded.

Big Sky Resort usually closes mid-April for downhill skiing and all other amenities until the second week of June. Big Sky Town Center, located 6 miles down the mountain from Lake Condominiums, will have restaurants and grocery stores available during both off seasons. Yellowstone National Park closes in mid-March for snowmobiling and reopens slowly mid-April for automobile traffic – weather permitting.

Fall off-season begins the first week of October, the Big Sky Resort closes all summer activities to prepare for the winter ski season which opens on Thanksgiving Day. Yellowstone National Park usually closes the first week of November and reopens mid-December for snow activities.

Note, the weather can be unpredictable during this time so please always check the park websites to confirm road conditions.

While staying at Lake Condominiums at Big Sky, you can also indulge in the year-round heated outdoor pool or enjoy the crisp mountain air and scenic beauty from two large hot tubs.
